They’re electric motors, wired to a battery. The final mile from suspension to tire has been refined by automakers for over a century now.
They are easy to make reliable. You don’t need much expertise to make them if you have the battery. Which is why everyone including China jumped in feet first.
Dealerships are like that. You go in for an oil change and sure as shit they call saying you need to do all these recommended services. Usually the implication is that you need it to maintain your warranty. Their tiered service packages 1,2,3 are a laugh. Usually the 3rd tier is over $1000.
I have caught dealerships charging me for stuff that they didn’t do. Claiming they’ve cleaned my brakes when there’s no way they cleaned anything. I go to my locally owned Fountain Tire for all my service needs now. They treat me right and take pictures of everything they find.
So in these days if you buy a new car, the prepaid maintenance package can be good to get. Otherwise do the work yourself or take it somewhere else you trust.
