It’s all about what you want. Since I’m older, I already experienced those cars when they were new 20 years ago and have no desire at all to go back to less tech, less power and drive something worn out. Thus, my oldest car is a four year old 1 of 200 Melbourne Red M4cs. I’ve thought about upgrading and replacing it, but it’s still pretty current, it’s crazy rare and I’m old and prefer the tech.
Point is that it’s only for you to decide as priorities are different for everyone.
Every three to four years I purchase a new car, the only exception was my 2005 GTO which I had from new in ‘05 to the summer of 2012. I just kept it while others came and went. Another exception is my 2020 M4cs while will be coming up on four years of ownership soon, with nothing yet compelling enough to replace it with. We’ll see when the G82 is LCI’d

I love my CS. I love the extra power, CS only color, more aggressive DCT tuning, suspension tuning, I love the better handling and I love that it weighs less than the others. It’s been my daily driver for almost four years now. I prefer it over the regular cars.
I’ve also lost count of the dozens upon dozens of regular M3 and M4 running around that I’ve encountered with a cheap copy of the hood, front splitter, wheels, rear spoiler and especially the taillights of my CS.
