I don’t disagree with you in your situation. However, the title of the original post is a general statement, not specific to the USA. This sub, as do many others on Reddit, seems to ignore the world outside the USA.
Not just the tax credits, but also import tariffs on certain vehicles. Here in Canada, incentives are applied to all cars the same regardless of country of origin, and we have minimal import tariffs on vehicles. As a result, a Model 3, BMW i4, Polestar 2 and Ioniq 6 are pretty much all the same price.
Alto tariffs and protectionist tax rebate policies. We have pretty much the same models in Canada as in the USA, but the prices are alot more comparative across categories because we don’t impose punitive tariffs and treat all vehicles equally for incentives.
That’s a USA political and policy issue, not a manufacturer affordability issue. Ioniq 6, Polestar 2,BMW i4 and Model 3 are about the same price in countries with less protectionist trade policies.
They do exist, but they are few and far between. Wheeler Automotive in Innerkip, Ontario is owned and operated by a former Tesla tech and is well known across the province, as well as Evolution Auto in the greater Toronto area. Véhicules Électriques Simon Andre in Quebec is also pretty big and has been around for a while. I think there are EV specific shops in the Montreal area as well.
