2015 Mazda cx5 with 115,000 miles had a “catastrophic engine failure” according to the mechanic at a reputable shop. It had pieces of metal in it.

I got a quote to install a 75,000 mile engine for about $5000 ($3000 for the engine part). But honestly, I don’t even know if that’s worth it. He said a new engine would be much more expensive.

Curious what anyone else would do? Is getting a new engine an option? How do I even shop around?

Just kind of at a loss and super bummed out.
