I asked my wife if she would drive an electric car and got a response I wasn’t expecting and is maybe more represented in the female demographic than I would have thought. She explained how, as a woman, she would never be comfortable driving and electric car because of the off chance something dies on it and she is stranded on her own. I said that same thing can happen with any vehicle but she was adamant that she believes the risk is alot higher for electric cars plus spending more time at a charging station rather than 2 minutes at a gas pump presents its own risks. Basically she would always take a hybrid over and electric car and alot of her friends agreed with her. I thought it interesting being a man I never thought of it that way and I don’t really worry about being robbed or assaulted.

I never thought about the waiting time for charging being a dangerous aspect of the vehicle. It definitely makes sense though in certain areas.

From my experience it’s usually the opposite though, you never need to visit a gas station for your commute, because you always charge at home, and when you’re charging your car on a roadtrip you’re not standing outside for multiple minutes, you plug it in and go and stretch your legs or grab something to eat in the restaurant next-door or just take a nap in the car or watch YouTube for 15-20 minutes.

I’d be much more worried about filling up at a gas station, the typical place where people get robbed and assaulted, EV charging stations is not somewhere people up to no good hang out.

Interesting. If it’s just for a round town commuter then the EV would be safer for two reasons:

      1. Not needing to stop to fill up, ever. Just charge overnight at home.

      2. Statistically EVs break down far less often than their ICE counterparts - way fewer parts to go wrong, even fewer moving parts, and nothing gets very hot.

I would also suggest the instant acceleration makes them safer as it’s quicker to respond to tricky situations but that may be arguable.

Personally I don’t like EVs either way but I was surprised by her response as it would make sense for her and it would likely be safer lol women don’t always make sense.
