I see there are various levels of 911, and the Emira currently has two engines being retailed.

Is the 911 a level above the Emira? In terms of driving feel, comfort, power and any other metric worth comparing them.

Without having driven the Emira, I’d say that there are some 911 the Emira would be nearly equivalent to from a physics perspective. A pre 2012.5 (pre 991.1) 911, for example, with hydraulic steering, in a trim that is close to 3200lbs. That would have the equivalent weight and weight distribution of an Emira, along with them sharing hydraulic steering.

For example, a 2011 Carrera GTS with 408hp would be pretty darn close to being evenly matched with an V6 Emira. Carrera GTS having 3.8 liters displacement, Emira having 3.5 liters. Both cars having ~40/60 weight distribution. A 2009-2012.5 997.2 Carrera S manual with X51 engine would be extremely close in curb weight to the Emira, being potentially ~70lbs lighter than a Carrera GTS that weighs in closer to 3275lbs curb weight, where the 997.2 Carrera S 6MT may be closer to ~3175lbs like the Emira.

Where a 991.2 Carrera T would also have a very similar curb weight to the Emira, it’s only got a 3.0 turbo which is a bit more of a difference in displacement. 991.2 Carrera T is down on both power and displacement, so it may be a little bit lacking vs the Emira in performance, though I haven’t looked at data to prove that. I’d personally take an Emira over a 991.2 Carrera S or Carrera T, since I like hydraulic steering and was not wowed with my drive in the Carrera T.

Suspension technology has come a really, really long way in the past decade. An Emira will probably be a substantially better driving car than even a like-new 997.2.

Having driven a few Porsche vehicles, I wasn’t really impressed. They are comfortable, precise, stable and confidence inspiring vehicles but not exciting to drive at all.

It took me a few tries over a couple years to find a 911 that I connected with driving. I had the same thing with E46 M3, and never found one that moved me. Even though that car is widely praised as being a great true drivers car. Some 911, like the 991.2 Carrera T, I found uninteresting completely.

Even after I found a 911 I really love driving, I’ve been modifying it to my taste quite a bit to make it exactly what I’m after.

What lots of people like in a car plenty of people still won’t connect with or find interesting. That’s totally OK. Hope you have found some cars you do like a lot, but even if not, continuing to search out more options is fun and interesting.
