Thinking about getting a EV. Just curious why you got yours. The reasons I can think of are:

  • Environmentally friendly 🌵
  • Cheaper Fuel ⚡️
  • They are cool/trendy 😎
  • Lower maintenance 🔧

    Things that surprised me:

    1. How much range anxiety I had with an ICE vehicle. I commute about 60 miles a day. I would often be driving home and realize I was getting low on gas. But I’m tired and hungry so I’ll just get gas on the way to work tomorrow.

    Then tomorrow morning, I’m running late so I don’t want to stop. Then I’m on the way home and sweating it that I can make it to the gas station. I don’t need that stress.

    With home charging, I never even think about range.

    1. How much I love 1-pedal driving.

    2. How much I hated having to get oil changes.

    3. (Tesla) How much I hated car dealers. Yeah, I knew I hated them, just underestimated how much. I will literally never buy from a dealership again.

      You know, if you just pay full sticker price then it’s exactly like buying from Tesla. You select your car, pay the listed price, and sign the papers. Easy peasy. But of course, you don’t get the best deal if you go this route, just like you don’t get the best deal on a Tesla by paying their listed price. Anyone that got caught with a pre-price-drop Tesla will tell you how much that sucked.

      I don’t know why people think that not having to negotiate is a benefit to them. It only benefits the seller.

        My wife recently bought an Audi. I went with her to pick it up. Price was settled, no financing. Yet we still spent over an hour with the finance guy trying to upsell us on at least 10 different warranties and other useless nonsense.

        I bought my Tesla on my phone. Spent 10 minutes picking it up. When you find a dealership that will get me in an out in 10 minutes, let me know.

          Last time I bought my Audi it was pretty painless. Negotiated price online, went in to test drive it, then just did the paperwork and walked out. Took more than 10 minutes but no annoyances. Obviously YMMV with dealers and most tend to suck, but I personally can’t buy a car without test driving the exact model I’m hoping to buy.

        They hate the innate “unfairness” that other people buying the same car on the same day are paying a different price.

        Personally I’ve never had a problem negotiating with dealers, but it’s certainly not a enjoyable experience. (But having said that, I’m a hypocrite because I’ve never used a “no-haggle” dealer, because I know I can do better than their no-haggle price! 😁)

          I’ve owned a couple of Teslas and now a Rivian. I think the dealership experience is actually better because you can go pick out your car, physically inspect it for obvious defects, and drive home the same day. My first Tesla convinced me that I will never buy an ICE car again. My Rivian is the best car I’ve ever owned. But helping my mom buy a Lexus yesterday was the best purchasing experience I’ve ever gone through.
