So a couple of weeks ago I replaced my steering rack. It was a job that was beyond my skill set a little bit and it was a pain in the ass and stressful. By the time I got it in and hooked up I was a little bit loopy and I didn’t look at the manufacturer recommended fluid to use. I used power steering fluid, and I just looked up what I should have done and the manufacturer calls for ATF dextron. It never really occurred to me that I would need to use anything else but power steering fluid. I figured that’s what it was for. I have driven the car a couple hundred miles since and it seems fine but I am assuming that it should be drained and replaced with the correct fluid. How do I drain it out? Is it already to late, is the damage done? The car is a 1985 Toyota Tercel 4wd wagon.
Probably your fine. You used power steering fluid? What exactly was it? Maybe it’s actually ATF.
It was this. I don’t see anywhere on it where it says anything about it being ATF
What’s on the back? There’s no information at all on the front. “Power Steering Fluid” doesn’t actually even tell what fluid it is.
It will be fine .
