I placed an order for a new Toyota Corolla hatchback in June, and i was told it would be 8-12 months. No deposit was necessary, and i still really want the car, but i dont want to receive it in winter, preferably April or so.

I’m getting my car wrapped when i receive it, and would like to get it undercoated. I plan on taking care of it right from the get go, and don’t want to immediately get it covered in salt before doing so. I would also like to enjoy my, likely to be, only ever brand new car i will ever purchase before it has to endure the canadian winter.

If i contact my salesman and ask him to delay it, how is that gonna go? Will i just be removed from the list and put back on another time, or will i just be skipped on the new cars till april comes around then be at the top of the list then?

Toyota doesn’t do custom orders. You’re waiting for them to get the model you want allocated basically. Just tell them if they get one you want in the winter that you’re gonna pass on it. None of my businsss but dumb reason to pass

I don’t think one drive to the undercoating shop is going to do anything. Undercoating is not a magical cure-all, it’s just another layer that may or may not help slow down the inevitable rust your car will see. Don’t even worry about this at all, just get your car and have it undercoated if that’s what you want to do.

Yea there is literally 0 chance they hold the car for 5+ months, even if theoretically possible there is less than 0 % chance they would store the car inside for you meaning it would sit outside all winter anyway.

I put a deposit down for a car and was under no obligation to accept it when it was my turn, they gladly sold it to the next guy until I was ready.

As someone who’s dealing with Toyota now. Good luck lol. Toyota thinks they’re Mercedes or Porsche or something. They don’t custom order.

If your corolla comes, they’ll call you, if you choose not to take delivery they’ll give it to the next and you’ll reset in the queue when you go to try and get it again

Can I ask why you can’t just take delivery of it during the winter? When you sign the papers make the appointment to get it undercoated, a couple days of driving it in the salt isn’t going to eat the frame away lol. They’ll just wash it off and undercoat it as normal.

I personally wouldn’t mess with it just because it’s Toyota.

You didnt order anything. They just took your name down as someone looking for a particular build and will call you if they remember and happen to receive or can allocate one from a sister dealership.

Any way you cut it, it’s going to be exposed to road debris when it is transported. Take it through an under-chassis car wash before the undercoat is applied.
