I just picked up my new M3 and was doing a drive with the sales reps and talking about the break in period.

He said that the car would be more powerful and faster after bringing it in for the break in service. He said the ECU is dialed back quite a bit until the first service.

I’ve never heard of this before and can’t really find anything online about it.

Is he talking nonsense or is this really the case?

He has an f80 which he had from new and worked there for 4 years so would hope he knows what he is saying.

Anybody else heard this?

    Have a new Ducati and my break in service allows for higher RPMs than pre break-in service, it’s basically limited to around 7500 RPM with 6 K being the warning. Post break-in 12500. May not be a remapping but gets rid of throttling on the ECU
