Hi all,
Been a Toyota lover for a long time.
Driving a 2020 Corolla right now and I love it, but my gf needs a new car and I can afford a new one for myself and give her my car.
Love how reliable and well built the 06 Camry and now the 20 Corolla have been to own.
I know the GR86 is collab with Subaru and I had some concerns about the quality.
Has anyone driven one of these long term? (5-10 years)
Thanks for any info you guys can give :)
Honestly just the typical issues a boxer has. The oil sometimes doesn’t drain to the bottom of the engine, like an inline would, resulting in earlier corrosion or wear. (Think the common head gasket issues some Subarus face) The GR86 has a Toyota fuel system I THINK. I might be wrong/ this was only a thing on the GT86. The BRZ and the 86 are almost identical cars, but I believe Toyota “toyotafied” their 86, and the GR86 is even more toyotafied, being it’s GR.
I might be totally wrong as it’s been a FAT second since I’ve read up and down the 86/BRZ, so somebody please correct me if I’m showing nonsense.
what’s a boxer?
A boxer is a type of engine! Subaru makes most their engines in the flat “boxer” style engine. The 86 has a Subaru engine. Porsche makes and uses flat engines too!
thank you:)
No problem! I should add that their advantage over a normal inline engine is weight balance. Flat engines can hold a lower center of gravity, which is partly why the 86/brz are so agile! They’ve totally made everything about the car about agility and control!
