I am starting to see used Mecan S vehicles (2016-2018) for under $30K. Most have 50K to 90K miles on them. I already own a newer Subaru, so basic transportation is covered. Is it crazy to buy a budget Mecan S to just get a feel for it without spending $60K+ for a newer one? I’d only own it for a year or two?

Porsches are well built cars. I’ve wasted money on many CPO warranties over the past 15 years as evidenced by that. I’ve never owned a macan, but lots of 911s and a couple cayennes and really haven’t had any real problems.

Now, the one thing to be aware of is just regular maintenance. You’re going to replacing rotors/pads a lot more often than you’re used to and they’re expensive. And spark plugs, serpentine belts, etc. the parts are expensive and doubly so if you need to pay someone else to install them (as sadly I do).

I’ve actually considered picking up a 2018 Macan S in that 35k range because they are such great cars. It’s a great grocery getter, golf car, kid carrier, etc. it does all those things while handling really well.

Lastly good on you for going for an S. the base macan engine is tragic and shouldn’t be allowed to wear a Porsche badge on it.

Timing cover, transfer case, PDK service. If those have been, it’s incredible value. Otherwise, your wallet will be … unhappy… it can cost a whole extra Macan S if they haven’t been addressed.

You’ll not want to go back to the Subbie after the Macan. They’re described as a sports car on stilts. Many Porsche sports car owners daily Macan and Cayennes. Then it will be a 911, Boxster and/or Cayman. 😎
