About 2 months ago my ball joint separated from my 2007 Acura TL Type S while driving. I eventually got it fixed by a mechanic who is contracted to fix military vehicles and also does some other auto mechanic work on the side, but noticed there was still a creaking sound while turning at low speeds, and when driving car would sometimes jerk itself in one direction. I took into Firestone, mostly because it was really close to me and they said the ball joint, control arm , and CV Axle needed to be replaced. I said it already got replaced and they said the cv axle still has a lot of play and is pretty greasy. Are they scamming me? I was desperate to get it fix because I wanted to drive to my parents house for Thanksgiving.
They probably just noticed the grease everywhere from when your ball joint popped and went directly to “you need an axle”
Never ever ever ever go to Firestone. They are both incompetent and dishonest and are the worst place you can have your car repaired. Pay to tow it somewhere else if you have to.
A friend was a long time service adviser for Firestone. He quit due to unqualified mechanics and the pressure to upsell.
