Entering my third week of ownership and while taking an extended road trip there have been numerous occasions to hangout by the chargers and meet people, or random shopping trips.

While stuck there for 20-30 minutes, I have enjoyed the opportunity to chat with other people about their ownership experiences or sharing knowledge about operating chargers. I’m curious if there are any fun stories from meeting others at charging stations. I’ve already recommended one of my single friends buy an EV to meet like minded individuals.

When we first got our LEAF 6 years ago we would always chat with people. Help them figure out how to use things, show them Plugshare.

The last couple years, interactions haven’t been overtly positive so I don’t interact with anyone anymore.

I was at an EVgo and a lady in a brand spanking new (60 miles odo) Lyriq pulled up next to me and took one look at the charger with a credit card in hand and then looked at me plugged in and then approached my window and asked for help just as I was about to offer. She just got it and hadn’t had the electrician set up the L2 in their garage yet. I got her set up on the app, had her enter CC info, and showed how to expose the DC pins and plug in the CCS and voila! She was charging at 160ish kW and was very appreciative. She seemed like a very sharp, well adjusted person and it showed how clearly inaccessible chargers are for new EV owners. The only reason it worked is because another driver and I called EVgo and had them reboot the stall a few mins before she showed up bc it wasn’t working for someone else who had tried earlier.

Good on you for helping a new EV owner get started!

Though I am always shocked at how little research people do before spending tens of thousands of dollars on something like a car. I was supercharging on a road trip about a month ago and an Ioniq 5 pulled up and a very confused driver was trying to put the NACS into his CCS port.

Me and another driver jumped out of our cars to help the Ioniq owner out and pointed toward a nearby EA station.

Still I’m just so surprised the basic level of how to fuel your $50k car just never got a google by some folks lol.

Helped a lady with a Hyundai who had never used a fast charger before, and she asked me out. I’d have taken her up on it if I wasn’t married. She seemed pretty nice.
