Dealership says I need to replace my stabilizer links because there is only 1 of the 4 orange tabs left. I cant find anywhere which describes what these tabs mean. Can anyone explain? If all tabs break then what?
The way I understand it is they act as a wear indicator of sorts. As the bushings inside the joint wear, the buttons move into the housing more. The shop should still verify there is play in the joint before replacement and not just rely on the buttons.
Thanks. I tried to replace my front driver side link yesterday. Had the tire off, and was able to get the top nut loose, but then it just kept spinning. Would not come off no matter how much I spun it. When I tightened it back down, it only took a couple turns for it to get tight again. Any idea why that might be?
You need to use a wrench, instead of a socket, and then insert an allen key into the hex hole on the end of the stud, to stop it spinning when you turn the wrench.
Those hold the plastic cup that holds the ball on the other end of the threaded stud. Eventually it will separate and your stabilizer bar won’t be attached anymore.
