Mazda 2 2014 Muffler is Toast

Important relevance to this post, I live in Canada and I’m not a mechanic, but I have a bit of experience with working on my own cars.

The muffler, from what I’m told (by my go-to mechanic) is a Walker OEM-only part that can only be sold through Mazda, at least in Canada.

The cost for an OEM muffler through Mazda was about $650, which I thought was a lot steeper than it should be for something like this. Looking online I see mufflers going for like $200 - $300. They were also going to charge ~$150 for the installation, so a total of like $800 with labour and taxes, so on. That’s a lot steeper than I was expecting.

So, I was wondering if anyone here could point me toward an assembly that would be compatible without needing to figure out the tailpipe. I’ve found some that claim to be compatible, but I don’t want to order one and find out that “compatible” on whichever site just means that the exhaust pipe was the same size or that the tailpipe in the imagery was just there for show, I would like to make sure the hangars, tailpipe, and upstream piping all align for an out-of-box install.

Short of that, I was thinking of this Magnaflow ($762 with taxes), which is compatible with the car, and was wondering if you guys think I should just do it myself.

It’s also on the pricy side, being right up there with the dealership cost, and I don’t need the me-go-fast sound. The upside is that it’s (I assume) better quality and I won’t be paying into some stupid OEM-only anti-right-to-repair scheme for a part that should otherwise be half the price or less.
