I’ve wanted a Porsche since I was 12 years old when I saw Risky Business. I’m a large man with a family of 4 , so I went with the Cayenne. Big, roomy, but still fast and handles amazing for an SUV.

But whenever I go by a Porsche get together or car show, there’s never any Cayennes. And I’ve heard some even say it’s not a true Porsche. Obviously it’s not a 911, not a race car pedigree, but I still love it. Still get more compliments for it than any other vehicle I’ve ever owned, so in not unhappy. Just wondering what Hive mind thinks

Well to I am just as happy driving the cayenne with a 3 ton trailer and still winning from the boys in their golf, than driving the 911

While the Cayenne definitely has a bit of a soccer mom reputation being an SUV, it’s definitely still a Porsche. It might share platforms with some VW brand-mates but they’re incredibly well sorted performance SUVs with an on-brand focus for driving dynamics. There’s a reason why it’s one of the standouts in it class.

For sure a real Porsche. Not a 911, but certainly feels like the 911 of SUVs. Used to own a 2006 S, now I have a 2001 986 Boxster. If I had both right now or a 996 and a Cayenne, I’d be a very happy man!

The Boxster definitely gets much more enthusiast credit as a manual, two-seater mid engined sports car. Turns heads much more with stock exhaust than my 955 did with a bypass. Seems like in the age of Taycans, SUVs, Panamera etc. it has really come a long way in “real Porsche” rep. despite how we all know it was received back in 1997.

The Cayenne has no doubt improved too but the purist stigma I notice is much more. I’ve proven a more than a few people wrong; it does feel like defies the laws of physics. Almost kind of like a big, lifted V8 German sports sedan. Now having tried 996s and 986s, I can attest the DNA is apparent in feel. A very fun SUV I would certainly own again in the future, distinctly Porsche ethos.

That being said, it’s still no sports car and I find my 986 to be many times more fun despite being almost half as powerful.

If you turned up with a Porsche tractor, you’d probably be swamped with interest…it has a Porsche badge- its a Porsche…but its not a sports car.

Enjoy your large, comfortable, fun tractor and ignore the whingers- i certainly wouldnt be upset to have one

We have a Cayenne GTS and I love it. My wife and I moved across the country in it with two 70 lbs dogs and it was fantastic. We also have a 991.2 which is its own version of awesome.

The way I see it, if it weren’t for the success of the Cayenne we may not have all of the other Porsche models that we do. Also, people say water cooled cars aren’t true 911s, turbo charged Carreras aren’t real 911s, etc etc etc. I just love the brand.

We have a Cayenne because my wife likes it better than the X5, GLE, F-pace. You can sit in a 992 911 after a 9Y0 Cayenne and the controls will be immediately familiar. Porsche has done a great job keeping design indicators across the lines. It absolutely feels like a Porsche, albeit one that should probably be towing another Porsche.

If you love it, that’s all that matters. I have a 911 and a Panamera and I love them both, but for different reasons. A beautiful spring/fall day driving local - I’m driving the 911 with the targa top off. Any other day, a long trip, or multiple passengers - I’m driving the Panamera. Trust me, both are Porsche’s.

For some reason that I cannot understand, everything that isn’t aircooled, for some people is not a true Porsche… For others, everything that isnt a 911… I’m against SUVs… But it fits you lifestyle, fits all your family, you love it… Don’t bother with what other people say… I hope one day I’ll own one, and a 911, and a cayman, and a boxster… and… You achieved you dream, please, please… Enjoy it
