  • For sure a real Porsche. Not a 911, but certainly feels like the 911 of SUVs. Used to own a 2006 S, now I have a 2001 986 Boxster. If I had both right now or a 996 and a Cayenne, I’d be a very happy man!

The Boxster definitely gets much more enthusiast credit as a manual, two-seater mid engined sports car. Turns heads much more with stock exhaust than my 955 did with a bypass. Seems like in the age of Taycans, SUVs, Panamera etc. it has really come a long way in “real Porsche” rep. despite how we all know it was received back in 1997.

The Cayenne has no doubt improved too but the purist stigma I notice is much more. I’ve proven a more than a few people wrong; it does feel like defies the laws of physics. Almost kind of like a big, lifted V8 German sports sedan. Now having tried 996s and 986s, I can attest the DNA is apparent in feel. A very fun SUV I would certainly own again in the future, distinctly Porsche ethos.

That being said, it’s still no sports car and I find my 986 to be many times more fun despite being almost half as powerful.
