In the market for my first entry way into Porsche. Was looking at a 2014 981 Boxster S. 26,000 miles and $47k. Four previous owners. Passed all inspections and had 20,000 service already done. Worth it?
I dont think number of owners matters. Single owner and no upkeep is worse than multiple owners with regular maintenance. I have an 01’ 986 S and it says 3 owners, 35k miles but owners were my grandpa, dad and I. If you’re concerned, get a PPI. It may seem pricy, but worth it if it keeps you out of a bad car.
There’s one Boxster in my area that keeps getting passed around because of divorces, etc. nothing wrong with it.
People are gonna say no solely bc of the number of owners but focus more on the condition of the car and what options you want! GL
Imo number of owners, especially with Porsche, matters a lot less than people put stock into.
If the condition of the car what you want to see, and it’s been checked by a reputable mechanic, you’re good.
Sounds like pretty low miles. If it’s got three pedals, then im a buyer at that price
Worth is entirely subjective. A pencil or a Porsche, everything is worth what someone is willing to pay. Only you know if it’s worth it to you.
If you want a boxster, prices are going to go down over the next few winter months and there will be cleaner cars at lower prices. You are also close to the price of a 997 if you were interested in that option
Does the same hold true for a 997 cab? Would I get a cheaper one if I wait a few months? I’m in no rush now, but this is the first time I’m shopping so I don’t know the market. Thanks!
The annual price swing applies to all Porsche sports cars and the fluctuations are bigger for cabs. In my experience, prices start fall as demand goes down in October and November and then December and January tend to be the lowest prices of the year and then February and March prices and demand increase a bit and in April as the weather gets nicer, demand and prices go up.
I have a 997.2 and really like the driving experience. They are worth a look to see what you think of them
A high spec (80k mSRP) is worth it at that price. 981 S the best of the convertibles in the 40-50k range and if the specs are there (SC, Heated/vented Seats, full leather, PSE, 18 ways seats, PTV), it depends on what you are looking for at the end of the day.
Sounds like a go, to me. Hurry up and get it before I jump on it and get that convertible and park it next to my 2014 Cayman S.
I’m the 15th owner of my 2002 M3. Didn’t actually check before I agreed to buy the car and by the time I’d found out I didn’t want to walk away.
Car is in absolutely stunning condition, FSH, tons spent on care & maintenance, with only 70k miles. Number of owners seems to have made no difference.
This is encouraging. Thanks! Nice validation that the number of owners generally matters less for sports cars like the m3 or 911 or boxster simply because they’re enthusiast vehicles
For what it’s worth, I paid $53k for a 2015 Boxster S a year ago. No PASM, no sport chrono, no PSE. No regrets. Love this car.
One thing to think about is that the service is sometimes measured in years instead of miles. I haven’t hit 30k miles yet, but just did the 8-year (80k service). Spark plugs, cabin air filter, engine air filter, etc. dealer wanted to charge $2700. Indie shop charged about half. Just something to keep in mind. Good luck and enjoy.
if ppi and testdrive is good, id say its a yes. If it’s possible contact pre-owner to clear your mind.
I was able to get a hold of my cara old mechanic even. granted, it was after i bought, but it was nice knowing what he did on the car
