I have a 21 m340. I always let it warm up first and get to operating temperature but the car stays in sport plus constantly. Is it gonna cause any excess wear and tear? Still have 1 year of warranty left on it.
Are you on top of your oil changes? Then no problem. But avoid high rpms until it is fully warmed up.
To be safe, I always keep the car in Comfort until it is warmed up.
Personally I don’t use Sport and Sport+ unless I want to drive spirited - which is nearly impossible on public roads in my country (the consequences are severe).
This is the answer. Comfort until warmed up. I’ve got an e90 and stay under 2k (65mph) until oil hits 180f, then keep it under 2500 until full temp. Just as important to let the transmission warm up as it is engine oil before high rpm, hard shifts and high boost.
Can you explain why people start in comfort? I can’t understand why it would matter as long as you aren’t punching it until it’s warmed up.
Idk about anyone else but just only choices for startup are comfort or eco pro.
What country?
Denmark, Europe.
The police have means to confiscate your car, if they deem you are racing or causing significant danger to the public. It is a judgement call made by the officer, and then they simply take it. This is also the case if you drive twice the speed limit on any type of road, highways included.
The most famous example is ~2 years old, when a Norwegian picked up a lamborghini in Germany, but got caught speeding through Denmark on his way home. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-10-08/danish-police-confiscate-luxury-sports-car-caught-speeding
In recent years they have cracked down hard on the automotive enthusiast community.
- Chiptuning - they can confiscate the ECU if they *think* the car is tuned
- Downpipe/catless exhaust - at least a fine and mandatory inspection at the local equivalent of the “DMV”
- Lower your car - if the head lights are too close to the road (vertically), you get a fine
The list goes on…
Ahhh I’m in Australia, basically the same thing however if the car is tuned they can’t tell, you get a fine for catless tho and lowered as wel
I either drive in Sport or Sport+. Comfort and EcoPro do not exist in my world, You’ll be just fine.
lol what is comfort and eco pro?
It’s only for driving your wife to her boyfriend’s house
Dang, can I get that aftermarket on my M2?
If I have wine rolling around the boot it’s going straight to Eco. Also I once moved some furniture mostly made of glass, also Eco.
Back when I lived in a lower COL area I would love to partake in the sport and sport+, but sadly I find myself hanging out in the comfort mode more times than I like. Have a fun drive for me friend.
There are two other drive modes for when my girlfriend drives my car in seldom occasions. I don’t even remember what they are called
My drive is too short so I’m in comfort mode most of the time. But when I can, it’s sport mode.
No. These cars are designed to handle much harsher punishment.
You know it’s a bmw right? “Designed to handle much harsher punishment” is not what they are known for. Bmw does not have the best reputation there. And yes, im aware it’s a b58.
No it’s not bad
I don’t think it’s bad but I don’t do it because I don’t want to get used to it. I drive around in normal Sports mode (M2C defaults to efficient fwiw) but when I go on “fun drives” or on an on-ramp with no traffic or sometimes off a light I’ll put it into Sports Plus and …. Mmmmmmm so fun.
An “efficient” mode on a proper M car? That’s seems like sacrilege.
Life’s short, fuck it. There are people making 700 hp on Gen 1 B58 engine blocks, you going wide open throttle on your stock engine is fine
NO FACTORY FEATURE WILL HURT THE CAR.
Even launch control?
My engine is always in sport plus or sport at least. Didn’t buy the car to drive in efficient that’s for sure
I drove mine 7 years on sport mode because the start/stop would only stop this way. Never Need to change something before the maintenance schedule.
Sport + and manual mode ripping it off every red light cause lifes too short
I drive my M2C in S or S+ all the time. Imagine one day when you get rid of that car, and you’ll think that you wasted your time in it driving in Ecocrap mode
Works better for diesels than petrol. Handy for rush hour traffic as its mote comfortable yo drive at slower speeds and lower rpms as well. But even in a diesel… s+ does mean things to my tyres
Lexus is great for these scenarios!
On some models the fan curve on sport plus is higher, so assuming everything else works as it should, there is an extra element of cooling
I too am usually in sport or sports+ depending on the whether it’s wet outside.
I drive in comfort till my car is warmed up. ( oil temp is in the middle ). Then will drive comfort, sport or sport+ depending on traffic. Sport+ for me is manual and it is annoying to be shifting.
I drive my 6 speed E92 in “sports” mode all the time and it’s holding up pretty well even at high mileage. Just change the oil often.
