2014 Fiat 500L Lounge.
I just had to leave my car in a strip mall parking lot because I can’t get it out of Park. The silver release button on the gear shift knob is pushed all the way into the knob, and won’t pop back out, and the gear shift won’t move. I tried taking the faceplate off of the knob, but all I can find is two little levers that make the entire button slide out of the knob.
I called AAA for a tow truck, but after two hours I had to give up and cancel because my passenger needed to get to the airport. Now I’m wondering if I really need a tow to a service center. I’m on a fixed income (disabled), so a cheaper solution would be a huge relief.
If it’s the button on the gear shift knob that’s physically broken, then shouldn’t replacing the gear shift knob fix it?
I found a video that may be useful. Usually there’s some kind of port to access for this kind of thing. Most likely you need a shifter.
