Heya guys, been getting used to doing my own fixes for my car, so I’m lacking a bit of the maybe common-sense knowledge for some of this stuff.
What does the housing actually do, and should I replace it to be safe?

You’re thermostat does not control the temperature of air inside the car, it controls the flow or not flow of coolant thru the engine based on its temperature. You are probably looking at a blend door issue if the air temp will not change
