Heater went out. Pretty sure it's my thermostat since it still blows air, just not hot. Do I need to replace the housing, or just the thermostat?

Heya guys, been getting used to doing my own fixes for my car, so I’m lacking a bit of the maybe common-sense knowledge for some of this stuff.

What does the housing actually do, and should I replace it to be safe?

For posterity, I have a 2010 Avenger SXT 2.4L

It’s not your thermostat. Is your car overheating (thermostat stuck closed) or running too cool (thermostat stuck open)?
