Just went and test drove one, still not a huge fan of the blocky front. Just wondering if I’ll get over it, I’ve been saving for one and can almost justify the purchase.

My biggest takeaway from it is how exposed the front radiator is… is there a way to protect this from rocks? Seems like an expensive trip on the road if one hits it at speed.

Unpopular opinion - I don’t like the looks of the F87, and I never did. Fantastic car to drive (especially the CS), but I just never liked the way it looks. However, I fuckin loved the G42 from the second I saw it, so I waited for the G87 and put down a deposit as soon as I could. I’ve been driving for about 30 years, and I’ve owned a ton of cars in that time, but goddamn… the G87 M2 is so good. A little chonky, but it’s my personal opinion that it’s the best car that BMW makes right now. Also, it gets a lot of hate from “enthusiasts” (mostly F87 owners), but I have never owned anything that gets as much love from random-ass strangers as this stupid little blue brick does.

I agree. I must be in the minority too. I never liked the F87s homogenous design or its proportions and its interior always felt like a class below what you pay for. I fell in love with the G42 when it came out so this post is probably not for me. I loved the G42s long hood, aggressive styling, wide fenders. Plus the interior was easily a class or two above the F87. It also doesn’t look like anything else on the road. The G87 only built on all those strengths. It’s a baby M4 and truly feels purpose-built and special. I’ve taken her to a few cars and coffees now and people swoon over it. I respect the F87 for what it is and why people like them. But I’m glad it’s all grown up now.

It is an unpopular opinion, but perfectly valid.

As an F87 owner, it’s just disappointment I felt. I couldn’t believe the first photos I saw of the G87. I remember sitting there thinking “well, shit…what now?”.

Equally, I dislike the G42 and still haven’t come round to it. Although I prefer the G42 over the G87.

The rear of an F87 is starting to date. The interior was dated even at launch. But the front and sides are just so good looking still. I showed my non-car girlfriend the two side-by-side (front angle). She said it looks like the F87 would “bully” the G87. Interesting comment, I thought.

I’ve got to go to Porsche to get a better look now, and once I go there, I know I’m not coming back to BMW. So a bit of a silly move from BMW to alienate the majority - particularly in the enthusiast market.
