So basically I’m left wondering where the Corolla stands in the lineup and where they’ll go from here. The Corolla is 100% toyotas favorite lineup, though the sedan is dwarfed in every way by the new Prius. Should the Corolla stay a cheap car with a weak engine, and possibly shoot for 60mpg? Should they shrink the car by 6 inches and reconfigure it as a subcompact? It feels like the chr and then venza, Toyota has crowded the field with compact- midsize sedans/saloons and that leaves the Corolla in a weird place

Shoot for 60 mpg? I get upper 60’s during the warmer months in my 21 Hybrid. 😂

the Corolla was already up to date long before the Prius, just not in the US.

we got the Corolla with the exact same engine as the Prius since 2018 in Europe.

In the US the Corolla seems to be kept as a low cost vehicle though which probably explains why its not getting the more expensive engine and is generally much more stripped down than the EU spec version.

The Corolla sedan is still a perfect first car. I can’t see Toyota going away with the Corolla anytime soon.

They’ve since added the Corolla Cross to the list. I’ve heard mixed reactions on that, have started seeing more of them on the road now than six months ago, and in my mind needs one major thing to really make it more competitive - it needs to grow in length and maybe an inch or two in width. I have some room in the back seat of my Corolla, and earlier this year I checked out the Cross; I barely had room in the back seat. The Cross being three inches shorter in length is really noticeable inside; compare it with the 2024 Chevrolet Trax, there is almost enough leg room in the back seat area of the new Trax that it’s almost like sitting in a RAV4.

Just update the interior a lil bit cuz other compact sedans like the civic and mazda3 have much better interior.

I’m biased as I have the Corolla hatchback and think the interior is great, I think it’s definitely nicer than the Honda, but I’d have to give it to the Mazda. From what I’ve heard the Mazda before long gets rattles though, but who knows if that’s always the case?

Prius is vastly more expensive. Corolla has the sweet spot of affordability.
