Sometimes I park my (manual) car and find that while I’m well aligned , I’m either too far into the spot (don’t always want to bait someone with my smol car) or not far in enough.
Assuming I’m on level ground (ie in a multi storey carpark), is it OK to put my car into neutral, let down the handbrake and push it a little? As opposed to firing up the ignition and driving it 50 centimeres?
Should be fine. The wheels aren’t connected to the engine or other transmission gears in neutral.
I do this all the time, no problem. I have seen people push dents into their cars when pushing though, but other than that you should be fine.
Sure. Your car is designed to roll for hundreds of thousands of kilometers so 50cm won’t have any sort of impact on it at all.
It’s totally okay lol
I used to be a tech and whenever the car wasn’t fully lined up to the lift just put it in neutral and push it with my leg while sitting in the car
By pushing you mean getting out of the car, leaning against the body and pushing THE CAR? Sorry if I misunderstood.
Why don’t you want to start the car?
I’d worry about it rolling away regardless, but other than that no worries
Won’t harm the car, just keep in mind if it starts to roll faster and you want to hop on and hit the brakes they will be unassisted by vacuum and will be tougher.
I do it all the time when I’ve backed up too close to my wall and have to get in the boot.
It’s like when you put in neutral and take foot off clutch so your good
If you’d have the (man)power you could push your car in neutral from spain to china and it wouldnt care a single bit.
100% safe to do.
Of course that’s okay. Doesn’t have any negative impact on the car.
This makes absolutely no sense.
Starting the car is way easier.
I do that almost every time I park. In my apartment complex my roommate and I have one long spot so the cars go back to back. I usually pull close and then get out and manually push the car until it’s almost touching the car ahead.
I’ve watched so many fail videos of drivers chasing after a rolling car. Some even get their toes run over.
Don’t kill the engine after you park if you’re this perfectionist. Park. Get out. Check then reverse again. Once you’re satisfied then kill the engine.
I push my girlfriend’s car further away from the garage door all the time when i need access, much better than a cold start for 5s of movement
I just open the door to look at the parking line next to me. How close is it and how straight. Can I open my door to the 2nd detent without touching the car next to me? If yes and I’m happy then engine off, if not, time to wiggle around and fling the wheel all over the place until I am happy.
