The trans is a 6r80. Not sure how this happened. With the engine off, I sucked out 4 liters of oil from the fill hole. When pumping oil back in I counted only 3.5 liter and fluid started to overflow. I figured even if I was short half a liter it wouldn’t do any damage until I could check hot and fill.

Because I was not on level ground I drove around for a bit and checked the oil, trans fluid was still in cold range and to my surpise the oil was almost at the very bottom of the dipstick. Its a 2012 f150 but new to me. Maybe the trans was already low…

Anyways, is anybody here familiar with these transmissions? I’m pretty worried that I damaged the trans, by trying to save a few bucks and doing it myself.

When they sit and the trucks off the converter and everything else drains back into the pan. If you start evacuating fluid as soon as it’s off you don’t see any overflow really. As you start to fill, once you got the pans capacity met, the fluid is not being sucked up by the transmission pump and starts to overflow.

Most likely your fine, though these do have leadframe issues. Just did one today.
