Recently there has been an onslaught of cars coming into the shop with 2-3 quarts of oil in their cars when there is supposed to be 5-6 quarts. This includes my girlfriend’s car who gets her oil changed done by me. Is there a reason why that is?

P.S. some cars that had their oil changed done recently come in with low oil light and low oil.

    People aren’t checking their oil.

Also oil consumption on cars has increased. Older cars aregetting older and wearing more. This makes them consume more oil. Newer cars are made with low friction piston rings that consume oil and turbo will increase the oil consumption too.

And people have gotten used to cars not consuming oil or needing any other repair work. I think that car reliability went up until 1990…2010 and then has gone down. Also car and house are probably the last things that get repaired anymore. In the past everything was taken care of and repaired when it needed repairs.
