I have never used Carplay, how does it differ from just hooking up the phone with Bluetooth? I can just jump in, car automatically connects to my phone and I can switch track etc from the cars buttons.
The big benefit for me is being able to use Google Maps instead of an automaker’s proprietary navigation software.
I can search for my destination while walking to my car, have the directions pop up on my infotainment screen.
I also relatively frequently switch between listening to podcasts and music, or have my phone read text messages to me. All with my phone sitting untouched in the center console.
Oh yea that google maps would be nice, for that I have to use my phone. My car comically can read text messages to me, but only text messages no whatsapp etc. And nobody uses plain text messages anymore except for like notification of an arriving parcel.

CarPlay is your phone projecting an interface on your car. You can use Spotify directly, navigate with Google maps. Message people with iMessage.
