After months of hype, Humane, a San Francisco-based artificial intelligence company, on Thursday launched its first product: the AI Pin, a digital personal assistant housed in a tiny, square-shaped piece of hardware.

Besides the ones that the company gave out as review units and gifts to corporate friends, how many of these have actually moved to the customer base? 3?

I’m sorry but this is probably the most dumbass thing I’ve seen in the past few years. You don’t have to know much of a tech stuff to see in how many totally basic user scenarios this thing would either fail immediately or require multiple attempts to even get things right.

Another question, how do you wear this on non-rigid clothing? I work down south and even on office days, I wear a thin clothed shirt. This thing will just hang all saggy tit like for most people that just wear t-shirts.

They have an add-on laser and battery pack for daylight. If it’s too bright out it just burns the message into your skin so you can read it.

    🙄

I’ve seen SF movies where they have this type of setup of people punching buttons that were projected onto their hands somehow. Or perhaps embedded in their skin.

And I thought the idea seemed ridiculous, and I still think it’s ridiculous even though it’s actually happening.

Well add to that voice calls are usually for private conversations and so you’ll have to put earbuds in anyways… and wear this stupid bulky pin on your shirt all the time? These days personal calls are many times video or just text. This is the kind of idea that sounds cool to boomers

As a card-carrying boomer, I can say that this doesn’t sound the least bit cool. Unless it works like a Star Trek communicator badge. In which case, I’m in.

It’s $700. The article is from Australia so the $1000 is $1000 AUS

(not that I still don’t think that’s a lot for what it is unless I’m missing something)

You should probably know then that subscription essentially includes an unlimited T-mobile plan, a Tidal subscription, and a ChatGPT subscription

They’re clearly positioning this as a “you don’t always need your phone on you” style device

Smartwatches make more sense to me. There was a video of a guy who tried going through his day with just the watch - paying for food, taking phone calls, and so forth. I don’t have an Apple Watch, but that idea seems appealing…

Is there a non-Apple smartwatch that can replace a smartphone for basic use?

Galaxy Watch 4/5/6 with LTE. Phone calls, text messages, payments, navigation, music streaming, all possible on the watch. Hell, you can even install a browser which is awkward to use, but it’s there if you absolutely need it.

It doesn’t look like it is trying to work with a smart phone but replace it. To me this is a smart phone accessory at best. I don’t want a phone plan for it, I want to connect it to my iPhone and use it as a tool to lessen the amount I need to pull out my phone.

Thing is, you don’t need this thing at all if you have a phone. Humane should have just made an app which you can chat with. We wouldn’t need that either, if Siri didn’t suck. Maybe the next version will take some cues from this; there are some decent ideas here.

Then the whole thing can just be an app. Open AI will probably release one on the app store and this thing is totally squeezed out.

There is a reason why only one person is using their communicator at a time on Star Trek, imagine a bus or train with everyone wearing one of these.

Fucking sound mayhem, gives me the sweats just imaging it

give me a glove that has a mic in the pinkey a good earpiece in the thumb, and lets me dial by pressing my fore middle and ring fingers, really thats all I want out of a cellphone.
