I don’t know a ton about foreign motors other than surface level stuff like the 2JZ, Wankel, etc. so please forgive my ignorance outside of US motors.

However, in my eyes, it doesn’t get better than the simplicity and easily available power of the SBC, BBC, and 6BT. What are your all time favorites and why?

    Subaru EZ36.

    Big, dumb, naturally aspirated 6 cylinder boxer that was still being made new until a few years ago. No common issues, great sound, decent torque.

    I liken it to the J35 - a 25 year old design that’s stood the test of time, except this one never got the GDI and VCM treatment, thank God. I’ve owned many cars and it has always remained my favorite non-performance engine.
