I don’t remember it being slow, but I think that’s just because the slow pace was part of the intention behind the show. Offices are slow, horrible places to work when we’re talking about corporate environments. So it added to the horror that they made many in-office experiences drag out, and it hit really hard as a result.

So yeah, I agree, but also… I loved/hated it (mostly loved it).

For All Mankind, Severance, Silo, Slow Horses, Foundation, Pachinko (my personal favourite), I could go on.

Apple TV+ may not have many shows. But their quality ratio is unmatched.

And Ted Lasso got boring after the first season 🤷‍♂️

Morning Show too. When we’re looking for a new thing to watch we always check Apple first to see if there’s anything new. Netflix drops heaps of garbage on their service then cancels the good stuff. Prime has a lot of really expensive but hollow productions. Zaslav is stripping HBO for parts. Apple doesn’t put out a lot but I can usually trust the stuff they put on there.

While I persist with Netflix for budget, films and a few perrenial favourites… they don’t half pump the garbage. Great true crime, and just as much half baked shit-podcast-now-a-shit-series true crime :/

Yeah even shows I’m not into have a mark of quality that definitely is appealing to others interests. As is typical with Apple, they focus on quality over quantity. Haters hate, and there is plenty to be critical of, but Apple gives a fuck about quality much more than a lot of their competition.

But I’ve got to say, season two goes pretty hard despite some really cringy moments here and there.

Ted Lasso got boring after the first season because they made everyone happy and bubbly. It worked so much better when Ted was the lone optimist.

Invasion isn’t a bad show but ignoring the fact that See, Silo, Severance, Slow Horses, Foundation, For All Mankind, and most other shows on Apple TV exist is just dumb. Ted Lasso was mid after season 1 imo but Apple TV has an unmatched quality level with most of their library. I dislike Apple but they’ve been making banger after banger compared to every other streaming service and I hope Monarch is just as good as everything else.

I feel like the difference in Apple TVs shows versus other streamers is the cinematic quality.

It reminds me of the days when the difference between network tv shows and premium cable shows was distinct.

I can’t seem to find the exact words but it feels like Apple TVs programming is just more polished, whether the plot/writing/pacing etc. is not great it still feels like a polished product that fell short.

Apple understands that trying to cut every corner to reduce cost is a recipe for garbage. More than that, they’re not afraid to spend what’s necessary to achieve better than “good”. I think they’re evil in other ways for sure, but I respect this about them. It shows in everything* they produce.

That keyboard was the absolute worst.

And they did 3 different versions of that shit before killing it for good.

It’s kind of cool to see them back to basics. Good keyboard, good connectivity, no touchbar BS, crazy good CPU and GPUs, crazy battery life.

All of those can be watched in a month, though. It’s not enough to sustain an entire subscription. Also, foundation kind of sucked (nothing happened… maybe it will in the future, but also maybe it won’t)

Tales from the loop is actually on Amazon prime, lol.

Read and loved them since I was a kid. I understand that different mediums have different requirements and adapting stories from the 40s/50s might necessitate some changes. I definitely have my issues with it, but I am able to enjoy it for what it is and not pretend it’s a 1 to 1 version of the books. Life is too short to get upset about entertainment.

          1 to 1

You’re kidding, right? The series would have been better if it weren’t called Foundation. They’ve mutilated the source material far worse than anything JJ Abrams has ever done.

If you start watching that show because of the name and history, then it’s a terrible show.

If you took Jersey Shore and renamed it “Lord of the Rings: Shoreline” while having the characters spout the word “Hobbit” here and there, people would be rightfully disappointed.

This honestly isn’t far off of that. The show is a disgrace to the books and shouldn’t share the name. Maybe if I can go back and forget the association, I could appreciate it for what it is. But it’s not what it was sold as.

I don’t know what to say. I went in not expecting a 1 to 1 of the books. I agree there are definitely some things that are very questionable and things I don’t like, and I think there are some cool things about it too. I love the books and they will always be there for me to enjoy. I just don’t have the energy to get that upset about stuff like this anymore. I’m not trying to change your mind and I see where you’re coming from. I’m just trying to say that liking the series doesn’t automatically mean you’ve never read the books.

Severance and Silo you mean. Foundation has been partly great and partly terrible. Any plotline with Brother Day has been fantastic. The others have been weak or, in the case of Salvor, terrible. Overall, the foundation is worth a watch, but it is not phenomenal, in my opinion. Not like the other shows.

Apple licenses the content from the creators – that’s true of almost every network and many film distributors as well.

Few distributors make their content in house. 'Netflix Original ’ doesn’t mean it was made by ‘Netflix Studios’ – they don’t exist. What happened was (for a series) that either a complete season or a pilot was shopped around, and Netflix bought the (exclusive) rights, which made that piece of content a Netflix Original. For films, they have usually already been made and are in a limited theatrical run (eg. Festivals) or are being shopped around privately. I imagine a limited few have distribution deals made prior to production, but that’s still not ‘Netflix’ (or Apple) making that content.

Apples launch content (eg. Ted Lasso) was produced to prop up the platform, but the method by which that content was discovered, funded and then licensed is not much different from how a traditional network (like NBC) might function.
