Honestly, I think I’m giving GTA too much credit to put it next to HL3 like that.

    So no, hard disagree there.

This is a whisper. HL3 announcement would be a bang that would grind the internet to a halt.

Gross sales is not predictive of hype surrounding a series, especially when that series hasn’t had a release in nearly 20 years.

You… Are out of your element.

Out of my element? I think we only know about as much as each other mate.

You’re comparing the release of FIFA to the release of HL3.

That’s adequate information to know you are out of your element.

I don’t mean the release of FIFA, I mean the games that groups of people play and are aware of. If even non-big-gamers are hyped for a game, then oh boy.

Yes, but I (unfortunately) think more people are hyped for the big fish.

A discussion of hype is all conjecture anyway if we can’t measure its weight in a bottle so we’ll probably get nowhere fast with this,

You do not understand what a white whale is in this context.

I’m really not going to entertain this discussion further.

You’re, at best, sea lioning at this point.

The avg gamer/person doesn’t give a fuck about Half Life. That ship has looooong sailed. Without the memes that game series would just be a historical footnote somewhere when discussing Counter Strike.

Exactly, like duke nukem for example.

There are millions of GTA players, all the kids seem to love it, IDK about the halflife user base today.

150k people went out of their way to buy a $1k headset on top of a fancy PC so they can play the half life VR spinoff. People today would absolutely pay $30 for Half-Life 3 if it was innovative and impressive. The ship hasn’t sailed, the bar was simply raised.

You’re comparing steak and a big mac here. They have largely separate target buyers and operate at different levels of quality/craftsmanship. Yes, HL3 would grind the gaming news media to a halt while this fluff article about GTA6 is just fluff.

But the steak isn’t selling more copies that the big mac. This is what people are arguing with you over.

That’s not what is meant by “anticipated release”, though.

FIFA2025 will outsell GTA VI. No one is biting their nails waiting for it to happen. It is in no way a highly anticipated release.

GTA VI is a pretty highly anticipated release, yes, but to compare it half life 3 is… Silly.

By this metric, Half Life 3 is way, way way way more highly anticipated. Steam servers would go offline.
