Tried it a year or two ago on a free weekend. Was absolutely amazing how buggy and not user friendly it was after so many years of development.

Every single thing, and I mean everything, required me to Google to figure out how to do it. Basically Googling how to put one foot in front of the other. Felt less like playing a game and more like doing research for my PhD. Was not fun.

I mean it’s got spectacle. It feels massive. The few areas I checked out looked really cool. It just played like absolute dogshit and felt like having a second job. It’s a no from me, dawg.

Tried it a while ago too.

Spawned in on that planet with a big city.

Awful performance with loads of characters either T-posing or sitting half a meter above their benches.

Pretty immersive needing to find, and then take, the metro to the star port to get your ship. Still awful performance.

I spawn in my ship. Go to my ship dock. Get in. Take a seat. Very cool.

      Request takeoff. Takeoff granted.

Port door opens more slowly than continental drift. The instant it’s fully open it already begins to close.

Oh fuckshit! But at least it’s incredibly slow.

I take off and try to fly out. I get clipped into something… Invisible…? …Invisible door…? My ship spasms out wildly, sending the camera every which way. I explode. I die.

      20 minutes of gameplay.

      I uninstalled.

I don’t really follow the Star Citizen drama too closely but I’m surprised he lasted that long. This is the same Olli who was dunked on throughout and ultimately thrown under the bus during the infamously disastrous livestream presentation they did. From the outside looking in, Olli seems like a reasonable and personable fellow and CIG may just be a toxic hellhole, or at least has a handful of toxic personalities in high positions and that’s why they all didn’t seem to get along very well, but even if it’s for less blatant reasons I think it’s pretty clear he was a poor fit for the organization and he’s probably better off having nothing official to do with them going forward.

My understanding is before he got the job he was extremely committed to promoting PR messaging from CIG.

You reap what you sow and all that…

Whoever planned that event made a grave error that level cant be played in that time… it simply cant be done.

Also lacking any moderation and not managing expectations was utterly idiotic.

If he was responsible for planning or moderation…its his fault.

Yes, it was a big PR disaster, CIG have always been pretty shit at coms.

I quite liked Ollie43’s content and I enjoy playing the game every now and then.

Bonus points for upcoming interviews when the interviewers share their compassion for him having had to endure that experience.
