I see a lot of free games on here that are made with AI, and personally i’m not interested in AI generated content. If other people feel the same way, maybe we could start tagging posts accordingly?

Ok, thanks everyone for your input, here’s the new rule I’ve added to the sticky post:

If the game has an “AI Disclosure” then please include it in the post body too

Hopefully this allows interested readers to get the info without too much extra effort required by the posters, but don’t forget the golden rule: keep it civil and keep it chill!

Absolutely it should be tagged, and I think the AI Generated Content Disclosure from the store page could be included in the post body too for Steam games.

It’s to the point where everything that’s AI should have to be flagged with AI. That way we know it’s AI so we can avoid it.

As the person who posts the most here my main question is how? I don’t have any way to know what was used beyond what is posted on the game’s page. Some sites like Steam force disclosure, so anyone interested can just look there. Some like Itch don’t even enforce a description of the game so you’ve got no idea with them!

“AI” is a generic marketing term for a load of different things (for instance you might have different opinions on generating all your graphics compared to translating your game into another language compared to using a code assist compared to cloning an entire game), so a catch-all “uses AI” term isn’t necessarily relevant to everyone.

Ultimately if you’re posting you’ve always been free to put as much or as little info in the post description as you like, and to add extra info in the comments if you find something relevant about someone else’s post.

My suggestion would be that any ai disclosures the developers make (whether they say it contains AI or if they explicitly say it does not) should be included in the post body. Obviously sometimes people overlook things, but I think it would be a good norm for the community.

Obviously it’s your comm so do what you want with it :)

Seems fair, I usually copy the description anyway so if there’s some disclosure it’s not much extra effort to copy that too. Other posters don’t always add a post description though, so I’m not going to start deleting posts just because that info is missing!

In principle, I think having these tags would be a good thing. I don’t know about making it a hard requirement though as in many cases, posters may not know for sure whether AI was used or not.

I think it could also be relevant to know how AI was used. For me, there’s a big difference between a vibe-coded project full of generated assets and a game where AI was just used for something like debugging.

So maybe, one way to go about it is to have a short Steam-Style “AI-disclosure” in the description for games, where that information is available or obvious. Like “Uses AI-generated 2D-Assets” or “Uses AI for text translations” etc. But as I wrote, I would make it a suggestion rather than a requirement.

I don’t think reading the store page for a game you post is that much of a requirement. Obviously if the developers don’t say one way or another, then the poster won’t / can’t know.

And yes, including the disclosure text in the post body would be nice.

I think that’s maybe possible, but may not be required. I personally don’t like heavy-handed moderation. I prefer people to make decisions for themselves. Tagging AI allows users to know what they’re seeing and choose for themselves whether to ignore it, downvote it, or block it on their own. It’s their choice.

If someone decides to create a generative AI community for games because people here dislike them then great. It’s their choice.

That seems overly harsh as not everyone minds it like I do. If you’d like to create your own no-AI-allowed free games comm, no one is stopping you!

hey, i was asked for my opinion and that’s what i provided. i think the way AI slop infects and corrodes communities and trust is underrated atm.

is a tag only to filter for something or can you set a tag to “ignore”?

I mean, the least we can do in this community is to do a little research and post whether we’re unsure/definitely know if it has AI.

If I find any that I post here, going forward I’ll make sure to consciously put a note in the title concerning AI.

100% for this. I don’t think people should get up in arms if the fact it used AI in development is not clearly available, but if its right there on the steam page it should be tagged.

Yep, please at least copy any disclosure the devs have made!

Would also appreciate a “could not find disclosure” for everything else.
