I imagine the main problem is that EA is tactically keeping all of the IP.

Their last few releases were great, if you take into account the conditions they were made under and the constant EA meddling.

If the stories are to be believed - and they seem highly plausible - the best parts of Anthem were in the game precisely because of the EA CEO, not due to Bioware. I have a hunch that Bioware winning independence would be much like when Bungie went independent from Activision - an absolute train wreck with no direction.

So, possible train wreak or certain closure… At least an independent break would give them a chance

If they kept the studio operating, the intent would be to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes.

But it’s not new. It’s a studio that made some great games and is now past its prime. Those same dollars could go towards new indie studios, and maybe some of them will be decent.

I mean, a studio is just who’s working there. If they have newfound freedom, experienced and fresh talent, and strong direction, they can be great again. One of the big problems was that they tied themselves to cryengine, which they then had to completely retrofit. Instead they could just, like, not do that now. Their name would certainly still have a draw.
