It’s also viewed as a derogatory term by a lot of people in the US, because it’s used as a derogatory term by a lot of people in the US. Also conflates gender and sexuality which can be problematic. It’s just not the preferred term.

Sex and gender are different things, though.

A trans person who never transitions is still a trans person. (And if they have not yet transitioned, they’ve always been trans all the same)

But the phrase “transsexual” suggests that a trans person is trans only if they medically transition at some point.

          Transgender is much better :)

It’s also sometimes used to distinguish trans people who have or intend to medically transition. This can be a useful distinction when talking about support needs and experiences.

It’s just an older term from before gender and sexuality were separated as terms.

And nowadays, when people know better, “transsexual” feels like a slightly derogatory term to many transgender people. Better avoid it’s use :)

Oh definitely. But i think it’s healthier to correct the wrong term or tell people about better better use of words in the comments than censoring words.

              In a meme?

Not necessarily. It would clutter the meme quite a bit to add separate educational material to it. I’d say this was a good solution for this occasion. It also proviked a question whose answer included the needed information.
