    Check it;

    Get the “2 for 1” packs of generic candy that every gas station has…a pack of peach rings & a pack of cherry sours.

    Put a cherry sour inside a peach ring. They fit perfectly and look like a planet with rings. It’s really an entire experience because the gummy texture of the peach rings compliments the crisp shell of the cherry sour. Taste (which is also great) becomes the least surprising aspect of this journey.

    It’s an experience.

    Nah, dried apricots and apple rings from the bulk store. And some bits of broken chocolate bars as a treat. One notch above gorp’n it.

    I was gonna say that’s way too much junk food for a road trip, but then I realized that’s like two bags of chips and a candy bar these days.

      Especially at convenience store prices.

      (You can’t buy road trip snacks at a normal grocery store. Just doesn’t have the right vibe.)

          I have known people who do that with the focus being on hiking, nature, learning, and exploration. The nice camp helps with the exhausting effort theu put into the day.

          I’ve also known people who just get drunk and sleep in a tent, which seems more in the spirit and far less laudable.

            Yep, I’ve been both, for sure, and I hear ya. Not so much the drinking anymore, and the former was just as often leading a group/class for science adventures, but yeah. Camping, et al, is near to my own heart and I hold it sacred as a method of meditation and re-centering, so there’s some crotchety in there re: popularizing the luxurification of the whole thing. I mean, the Ship of Theseus is an entirely different question when someone’s opened a gift shop onboard. 😅

    Summer of 2016

    There is a particular kind of whimsy that you only see in posts from the before times. I’m not sure how to describe it, but I know when I see it because the first thing I do is look for a timestamp.

      I dunno if I’d call it whimsy. Happiness? Comfort? Safety? I’m not sure, maybe it is whimsy, but I feel it’s more of just a lack of sadness and stress. Everyone just feels on edge that they’re being or about to be attacked. A lack of anxiety? But whimsy feels like the wrong word.

    When I fill up for a road trip the pump shuts off at $100 and my tank is not even full. None left for snacks.
