I remember buying Pokemon Gold with my birthday money and my mom beating me senseless because she was planning to use that money. Worth it, though.
It’s weird knowing that when my mom did this she actually put it in my savings account and didn’t spend it on something.
I needed shoes for school, but I really wanted the super Mario light up ones, I had to use my saving for the upgrade.
Sorry to the people who didn’t have parents that taught and practiced financial literacy.
My mother did the opposite. I got my birthday money and she let me blow it on whatever I wanted as fast as I could. I immediately realized how quickly your new found wealth can vanish, and how little it can get you if you don’t think it through. It was a harsh way to learn financial responsibility.
This was my parents growing up, but now it’s the other way around. I get money for Christmas or whatever now and I am told I have to spend it on myself and on something that isn’t bills. Like the gift is that it’s money that I don’t have to be responsible with.
That is bad parenting
