As 3D printing becomes increasingly popular across all industries, audiophiles may be happy to learn that it's possible to create a playable vinyl record.
Bear in mind standard records are PVC. I’d wager that a 0.2mm nozzle printing from PLA could probably produce a record that, while it won’t sound perfect, isn’t bad and doesn’t wear the needle measurably faster than a standard PVC record.
But yeah, your main problem is going to be sound quality. Even if you print it sideways with a support scaffold to get a better resolution, you’re just looking at physical limitations there. Laser etching would probably be a better approach.
“Playable” doing some heavy lifting here. Doesn’t mean it’s gonna sound like anything good. Can’t imagine what it’s gonna do to your stylus.
