Russians want Poland to be furious about something that happened more than 150 years ago.
Not a fan of him, but is he really wrong for wanting Ukraine to admit that crimes happened and to apologize for them?
I can’t understand why Ukraine finds this so difficult, or even offensive.
He’s not doing it because he thinks it’s morally right. He’s doing it to get political credit. And the only ones that benefit from it are russians.
Absolutely true. I would never suspect his motives to be pure. But the same can be said about 99.9% of politicians, can it not?
And the second point stands - what’s so difficult for Ukraine about admitting to committing crimes in the past? If we’re to be allies or friends, does it not make perfect sense to admit and apologize?
To be clear, I’m not saying aid to Ukraine should depend on this matter. Just wondering, because in my mind this should be crystal clear.
I’m all for admitting crimes of the past, if both sides do it. The current narrative that’s being pushed onto us is more like “Ukrainians were the sole aggressors, Poles did nothing wrong”.
And for some reason they don’t push nearly as hard to acknowledge the Polish victims of communism, which were more numerous and horrible. Yet the country that gets blamed for everything wrong in Polish history is the one that currently isn’t a threat to it.
Poland isn’t a close ally of Ukraine, ‘partner’ at best.
