Yeah, as a Canadian seeing multiple media reports of businesses hurt by the lack of Canadian tourists along border states, it’s frustrating to hear most of them blame it on us.
“We’ll be there when you’ll be ready to come back!” But they never address why we’re not going anymore.
At least the comments are filled with Canadians telling them exactly why we won’t go back before they at least fix their shit, if we ever go back.

Honestly america needs to pump the brakes economically. The rapid expansion has turned everything that made one part of the country unique from the rest into stroads. It’s all bloated and thoughtless. Someone posted this meme today and I think maybe a decade of economic consolidation could bring back the bodegas and diners that gave america a lot of it’s culture.
The excuses usually boils down to one of these two:
“I’d do something, but I work and I need money”

I love and respect Canada (I’m actually a dual American and Canadian citizen), but before you go throwing the perverbial stones, recognize that there’s a better than not chance that your fellow citizens wouldn’t do much different at this stage than us Americans. And that’s not shade, most of the world wouldn’t either. It’s a select few people who’ve proven they can protest their way out of danger. The rest of us, we’re all figuring it out.

Besides, if you want to see a country that knows how to take down a fascist from within, don’t ask France, ask Spain. They’re the ones that know what resistance looks like in this case.

But with all due respect, I’m not sure recent Canadian election results are quite the analog to those French and Spanish resistances we’re talking about. The US did elect Biden in 2020 and the popular vote was against Trump in 2016; both similar to the Canadian 2025 election in my opinion.
I think you may be underestimating how quick we re-aligned. We went from a guaranteed alt-Right takeover to a centrist victory in 3 months. No, it wasn’t the French or Spanish resistances, but we reacted fast enough that it didn’t have to be. What you need is organization. We all smelled something wrong with the traitor, but it would have meant nothing if the organizational infrastructure wasn’t there.
Your problem is your resistance is a million little micro-cells with no organizational backbone, and the democratic party is too busy fundraising to actually put any effort into collecting the fragments and building clear objectives. No one inside or outside America is happy with the progress because you’re trying to kill a giant with a thousand papercuts and while it’s not nothing, it’s not helping anywhere near enough.
So yeah, you could use a lesson or two from the Canucks, because in the end the thing that saved us, is the thing your resistance is missing. Structure, coordination, and collective action.
No other country has the 2nd amendment. No other country excuses school shootings by saying guns are needed to reign in our government. Then when I suggest bringing guns to protests as a leftist WHICH IS OUR RIGHT, I get banned and lambasted.
The USA government refuses to change the right to carry guns, but then the same us government employees flip out when they see guns. Federal employees should be the ones so comfortable around guns because that’s our main right to keep them in line.

I just don’t get it. You people have the 2nd amendment. Your government allowed countless atrocities to happen against children using the gun telling you the gun is important to keep around in case the government becomes tyrannical. Now nobody is willing to pick up the gun to use it against the government and all of it’s employees. It’s really a masterclass of how a government gives you a tool and you refuse to use it. Still don’t understand how this is works if the 2nd amendment gives us the right to guns? They can’t just kill you for having a gun legally?
Unfortunately, they physically can and they do (see Alex Pretti) and the law won’t help you come back from the dead. And the law doesn’t protect you from a fascist government that doesn’t obey laws. And furthermore, you’re not asking people to merely possess guns. Is that how you think the second amendment works? They just walk around possessing guns and the dictatorship falls? You’re asking them to USE the guns and using guns against the government will get you arrested or killed
Possessing guns can collapse dictatorships though. That’s the tool of the 2nd amendment. Using the guns is the last resort of course, but we can demonstrate to the government that we have guns. Once they are aware that there is a large gathering of gun owners they will think twice how they proceed.
