With the answer “France under one wing, UK under the other” Ukraine is giving the answer to both its partner nations that they are equal, while also giving coverage to each nation so they don’t get singled out by Russian responses. Even if Russia chooses to “respond” to both nations, they would have to split their efforts to do so halving the effectiveness.
