Jewish leaders in Michigan are circulating an open letter urging Jewish Democrats and independents in the battleground state to sign their names in support of former Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI) as he faces Abdul El-Sayed, the far-left Democratic nominee for Senate whose hostile positions on Israel have alarmed many Jewish voters.

The letter, which was obtained by Jewish Insider on Wednesday and has not yet been publicized, is led by Eric Bronstein, a Detroit businessman, among others identifying as Democrats and independents.

It came to light after a fundraiser for Rogers on Tuesday night hosted by three prominent Jewish Democratic bundlers in Michigan who are likewise alarmed by El-Sayed’s candidacy. The growing efforts among Jewish Democrats to rally support for Rogers in the key Senate race illustrate the degree to which El-Sayed has alienated a sizable and politically active swing voting bloc in what is expected to be a close election.

Yes, it seems Jews are worried about antisemitism permeating leftism.

What will the response of leftists be?

It will likely involve hating Jews.

There is just as much anti-semitism in the leftist spaces as there are braincells in your skull. Which is to say - not enough to matter in any way.

If you think a non-Jewish Canadian is Israel, then how careful are you about applying the “evil Israel” label to others. How often do you apply it to people for just being Jewish?

Thank you for helping me make the point that leftists use Israel as a cover for being hateful towards others.

I apply it to people supporting the Israeli atrocities, nothing else. I wouldn’t apply it to Jews or even Israeli who call out the genocide. Only the genocide supporters such as yourself

I do wonder: Why do you call opposition to genocide antisemitism when it clearly isn’t?

If you’re opposed to genocide of Jews, I wouldn’t consider you to be antisemitic. Hamas committed genocidal acts on Jews on October 7. Do you denounce Hamas? If you can’t denounce Hamas, you’re at minimum willing to look the other way on atrocities committed against Jews. And that makes you antisemitic.

I’ve found very few people in the “far left” are capable of denouncing Hamas. They tend to ban me from leftist communities rather than face the question of whether to denounce Hamas. You’re not anti-genocide if you can’t denounce groups that have genocidal goals. So applying critical thinking, leftists aren’t really against genocide if they aren’t against Hamas.

Do you denounce Hamas? Will you answer that question or do typical the leftist whataboutism about genocide?

I’m anti genocide generally. No matter who does it. No matter who is the victim. Are you the same? And why won’t you answer my question?

Literally every single post you have ever made on lemmy mentions Jews or hamas. You are a waste of oxygen
