The similarities of the current situation in America to the fall of the Roman empire really do jump out at you once you notice them.

Farmers need better ways to fix nitrogen than smearing poop on everything. 😒

that’s not even remotely the issue.

what’s actually causing this is the FDA getting completely fucking gutted. when you don’t have nearly as many federal regulators doing inspections of food processing plants across the country, the capitalists get up to their old tricks and try to get away with as much as they possibly can.

While the FDA getting gutted certainly plays a significant role in this last mile, you’re ignoring that the bigger elephant in the room across administrations is the (literally) shitty state of our food system, that’s been allowed to fester for decades.

Manure is a popular choice for good reason - the supply far outweighs the demand, and they still can’t get rid of it fast enough to avoid massive pollution.

Do you really think previous regulations were anything more than a woefully inadequate bandage on a deeper problem?

That poop should have been processed to be safe.

Probably not. The article credits Shutterstock submitter Vladislav Noseek, whose online presence with photographs of this style (soft lighting, bright lighting, shallow depth of field, a focus on breakfast foods) long predates generative AI, much less of this quality. It’s stock photographers like this guy whose inoffensive visual style and identity have been most directly incorporated into the AI defaults.
