I feel like having many communities works well on large platforms, but on smaller ones it fragments the already limited content, which in turn makes most communities inactive and reduces engagement.

    Perhaps an interesting concept to explore would be something like “metacommunities” - that is, an extra layer that an instance OR user could apply to gather similar / identical communities spread across instances into a single alias. Perhaps including automated deduplication of posts that are identical, or nearly identical (by edit-distance - we don’t need an LLM for this), apart from the instance it was posted on.

    This way, the federation aspect is unaltered, but an additional layer of consolidation/visibility is introduced.
