I guess this is politics. This is happening in red states. Schools are getting worse because they can.
West Virginia’s recent population decline has been one of the largest in the history of the United States. From 1950–2000, an estimated total of 797,000 people were lost to out-migration. One faculty member, who will be dismissed from WVU if the cuts are approved and who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “West Virginia’s population decline is the largest in the U.S. From 2010 to 2020, nearly 60,000 people left.
This is the goal, it’s not just about keeping people in red states uneducated, it’s about making educated people leave so the states stay red.
Republicans have shown over and over again that they care more about staying in office than helping their states.
Especially with the Senate system. Liberal voters leaving is the goal of most of the stupid shit they do. I don’t blame people leaving, but the only way to fight this is to stay and vote.
Hahaha. Tell me more about how liberal states are dying Republicans.
Or you can move there, lol. No way I am and I would leave in a heartbeat. It’s not only a relatively dumb populace, but they’re also not a healthy populace.
I already live in a shitty red state, but thanks for the permission to move to WV mate
I feel that any politician is more concerned with staying in office than about their actual constituents. You can’t tell me that Nancy Pelosi cares about her constituents. Look at the homeless population in San Francisco alone.
Now, I’m not saying one party is better than the other. Just that they’re all morally questionable, at best.
Pelosi is a piece of shit, but the worst dem is still better than the best republican.
The two parties are not the same.
And it’s safe to ignore anyone who acts like they are, or that either party is perfect
It’s active hostility to higher education from those on the right, because once you’re college educated, you tend to be more left leaning.
"Highly educated adults – particularly those who have attended graduate school – are far more likely than those with less education to take predominantly liberal positions across a range of political values. And these differences have increased over the past two decades.
More than half of those with postgraduate experience (54%) have either consistently liberal political values (31%) or mostly liberal values (23%), based on an analysis of their opinions about the role and performance of government, social issues, the environment and other topics. Fewer than half as many postgrads – roughly 12% of the public in 2015– have either consistently conservative (10%) or mostly conservative (14%) values. About one-in-five (22%) express a mix of liberal and conservative opinions."
Good. If they can’t operate without massive handouts, they should either figure out increasing their income, or cut things that waste money.
If there’s one fucking thing this country should be subsidizing it’s fucking education
So waste your own money on it then. I’m sure no university will turn down your cash.
Everyone benefits when people go to school. I do pay for my schooling, and that of the doctors who will treat me in my old age, through taxes. It should go further.

They should only be for the absolute essentials of maintaining government. Not every random bit of garbage you want at someone else’s expense.
Let me guess. You support small government until it comes to religion, sexuality, race, and gender orientation?
An educated populace is 100% necessary for maintaining democracy. Feel free to go read your Thomas Jefferson on that, the sentiment is found throughout his written works.
If you read the article you’d learn:
-
It was explicitly set up to subsidize education for rural people.
-
Just one of the departments getting cut is projected to make $800,000…
