I have a 9900k, 32gb ram and 4080. I’m thinking about upgrading to 14700k bundle from microcenter. I am also doing similar stuff like you. I do video editing on adobe premiere, adobe after effects and starting on davinci. But right now, I am mostly doing blender, like 3d animation. I need a better CPU to do physics simulations and for better FPS in view port because even with modifiers turned off :p im getting 3FPS in view port when trying to view my own animations lol.

I am thinking about waiting for 15th gen, but now I remember that 15th gen is gonna be VERY pricey. The mother board and CPU will be expensive because its a new socket. The motherboards especially will be expensive for at least 6months to a year, similar to how AM5 boards were expensive until recently.

  • don’t listen to people who say “you are buying into a dead platform”. You used the 9700k for +5 years. If you buy 15th gen cpu, I will assume you will also you use it for +5 years. by the time you upgrade from 15th gen to whatever gen, that platform is “dead” as well because intel would have a new socket. this whole “upgrade path” is unnecessary unless you plan on upgrading every gen. Even if you skip a gen, again, most likely a “dead platform”.

i have a 9900k and im thinking of upgrading as well… mostly because of physics simulations in 3d rendering. takes forever to bake physics and slow view port displays while animating. its also bottlenecking my 4080 (upgraded from gtx 1080).
