The labour party is certainly flawed but you have to remember all they’ve given the people of the UK, in the brief times they’ve been in power (relatively speaking).

I’m not claiming it will fix everything but I would argue that the UK and just about every country thats had a labour movement that got into power benefited from it. Well, the 99% did.

Unless you know when the revolution is coming, it might be better to make alternative arrangements. Short of running to the hills and joining a commune, we’re quite deliberately not given any other option than to vote for better oppression.

For me, it kept a lot of the worst of the idiots away from places like reddit.

My old microbio lecturer used to always get his class to run an experiment where people would test the growth of different types of good bacteria found in the gut using different food sources. Understandably, workers didn’t like capitalism. So, when they found out about socialism, many of them grouped up and tried to say no. After which, facsism was made to counter this.

Outside of small city states, capitalism came from merchantislism.

Specifically, at the intersection where merchantislism and mass dispossession/theft of people’s land meet.

The only meaningful change is that the assets are now, mostly, intangible and you’re allowed to move to a different parish.

If only there was some kind of proven road map where countries who has been dominated by their ruling elite using the two party trick went on to form a kind of labour movement that forced a third choice on the ruling class…

There’s been a sustained effort by fossil fuel lobby groups to clamp down on this sort of thing and bribe governments into handing out grossly disproportional sentences.

To me, the most influential contribution in the last few decades would be “Capitalist realism: is there any alternative?”

Its very heavily influenced by Marx but it’s more like a philosophical intervention where I would see das kapital as more of a historical intervention. As in “erm no, this is the story of how we got here” (das kapital). Although, there’s plenty of philosophy of course. Its only about 5 pages long and there’s free readings of it on YouTube.

Although, imo, the real origin story of capitalism covered in das kapital, on a national scale, is something everyone should be much more aware of.
