science and music. and beer. and dogs.
The fact that the reporting is lopsided does not mean both side are biased. The actual event can have been lopsided, and then one of the media sides is being impartial.
I’m not saying that’s what happened, I don’t know what “really” happened. Neither do you.
In the 1930s a large majority of the german people wanted Hitler to lead them. That didn’t mean that the german jews or gays or the poles or anyone else deserved what happened to them.
He can’t be president, and I don’t see him interested in any other position.
Agreed. But you don’t have to go that far to make rain and snow transparent. And radar might not be a bad idea to have on self driving cars, as long as it’s not the only thing.
LiDAR can be done with different wavelengths. It should be possible to make one that can see through rain and snow.
Anyone bitten by a wild an animal should be treated for rabies. To wait for the animal to be tested, quickly or slowly, is just foolish. This animal could have been quarantined and observed without any danger to the bite victim.
edit: the animal needn’t be wild, just as this one was not.
I don’t understand why people think they should be able to vote on their special issue in this election. It’s an election for president of the US, not a referendum on Gaza. Yes, lots of us want to stop the genocide - it’s just not on this ballot.
If we elect Harris we can continue to work effectively in support of all sorts of causes. If we elect Trump it’s all over. We can continue to work, but not effectively.
I don’t agree that it worked. Regular folk in the US have a modicum of rights now, none of which can be attributed to the revolution.
The rest of Britain became democratic without violence. I’m not convinced that the revolution was necessary to throw off the oppressors. I think it was more about protecting the wealthy in the colonies.
I mean, Kamala runs the senate. They really don’t have any option to try the same scheme again. I do worry though, what new tricks they might try.
You can only achieve a fair and civil society through fairness and civility. That is what (most of) the democrats have been working on for the last 50 years.
It’s always tempting to think that you could “defeat” evil through violence, repression, suppression, and exclusion. Instead, you only become it.
edit: I really don’t mean to lecture here. I wrote this because I saw myself in the comment I replied to, and I needed to remind myself to be kind.
The disorder can only increase, just like your toys on the living room floor.
His disdain for NASA’s caution is obvious.
What a dumbass. If we send people in the quickest possible way (or any way at all, really) and they all die in the attempt, that will set the whole project back decades.
The answer to the radiation problem is better shielding, not a fundamentally unsafe mission.
btw it is not the nuclear propulsion that I’m calling unsafe. It is the idea that we could do without redundancy. That’s just a monumentally stupid idea.
Telescope is almost a misnomer here. It will be “looking” at other satellites, not astronomically distant objects.
The influence of gravitational waves will be seen in changes in the relative distance to each of the six satellites.
It would be like calling FEMA ‘democrat run’ when talking about the latest hurricane recovery efforts. It is literally true, but it is not relevant. To add it would only serve an editorial purpose, not a factual one.
Your typo makes it sound like they’re doing something terribly cute!
The idea that something not practical is also not important is very sad to me. I think the least practical thing that humans do is by far the most important: trying to figure out what the fuck all this really means. We do it through art, religion, science, and… you guessed it, pure math. and I should include philosophy, I guess.
I sure wouldn’t want to live in a world without those! Except maybe religion.
If they do it, it will be by suspending the constitution entirely. Don’t need any states for that.
